Budget 2023 🇨🇦 Healthy Smiles, Healthy Economy

On March 28th, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland presented the 2023 Federal Budget. I want to share some of the positive impacts that the Budget will have on you and everyone who calls our community of Vaudreuil-Soulanges home.

Budget 2023 targets key areas essential for the well-being of our children and our hard-working parents and grandparents, including:

Expanding Dental Care:  The Canadian Dental Care Plan introduced in Budget 2023 will help improve access to dental services for Canadians with a family income of less than $90,000.00, with no co-pays for those with family incomes under $70,000.00. By the end of 2023, the Plan aims to cover Canadians under 18 years of age, seniors, and persons with disabilities who meet the income criteria and do not have private dental insurance. The Plan will further expand in 2025 to include all uninsured Canadians with family income under $90,000.00. Stay tuned for more details to come.

Grocery Rebate: To help manage rising food costs, Budget 2023 offers a one-time grocery rebate. Families of four can receive up to $467, singles without children can receive up to $234, and an extra $225 is available for the average senior. This relief will be delivered through a one-time payment from the Canada Revenue Agency following the passage of legislation.

Small Business Support: Our entrepreneurs and medium and small businesses are vital to our community's growth. Budget 2023 reduces credit card transaction fees and provides free access to online fraud and cybersecurity resources from Visa and Mastercard, helping businesses grow online sales, innovate, and create jobs.

Climate Action & Green Infrastructure: Budget 2023 makes unprecedented investments in clean energy initiatives and green infrastructure to protect our environment, create sustainable job opportunities for Canadians and support Canada's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Universal Chargers: To save Canadians families money, reduce tons of electronic waste and promote clean energy solutions, Budget 2023 announces that Canada will work with their international partners to introduce universal chargers for electric devices such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops.

Strengthening Healthcare: Significant investments are being made in Quebec's healthcare services and facilities, ensuring access to quality care for all residents.

Key numbers include:
  • $37.3 billion over 10 years for Quebec's share of the federal health plan, with $8.9 billion in new funding;
  • $1.7 billion in ongoing bilateral agreements for home care, mental health, and long-term care;
  • $26.7 billion relative to 2022-23 levels through the Canada Health Transfer;
  • $447 million CHT top-up in 2022-23 for emergency rooms, operating rooms, and pediatric hospitals;
  • $3.7 billion through the CHT 5 percent Guarantee;
  • $4.8 billion through tailored bilateral agreements.

Taking Aim at 'Junk Fees': Budget 2023 demonstrates our commitment to combating unexpected, hidden, and additional charges across various services, including concert tickets, airfare, telecom services, and shipping costs, making everyday expenses more transparent and fairer.

Since 2015, our Liberal government has worked hard to make significant strides in enhancing the quality of life for all, from expanding affordable dental care and supporting our seniors to fostering small business growth and promoting sustainability. Budget 2023 continues this commitment. As your federal Member of Parliament, I remain dedicated to ensuring you and your loved ones benefit from these positive initiatives.
