This week, our Liberal government introduced new legislation, the Strong Borders Act, to protect our communities from organized crime, drugs, and violence. It’s a tough, clear, and necessary response to the real threats we face at our borders and in our streets.
This bill gives law enforcement more power to stop the flow of fentanyl and other toxic drugs, intercept stolen vehicles before they leave the country, and crack down on organized crime networks that profit from trafficking, fraud, and violence.
It also strengthens the asylum system, protects the integrity of our immigration processes, and equips the Coast Guard to better protect our sovereignty, especially along our coastlines and in the North.
Why does this matter here in our community of Vaudreuil?
Because the impact of these threats is real. We’ve seen illegal drugs devastate families. We’ve seen an increase in car thefts. And we know that no community is immune to the growing influence of organized crime. This legislation is about keeping our streets safe and making sure criminals face real consequences.
The Prime Minister also announced an investment of over $9 billion in Canada’s national defence this year, a generational commitment that will strengthen our Armed Forces. Through this commitment, we will meet our NATO target this year, five years earlier than planned, and take the steps needed to rebuild and rearm our military.
This includes investments to:
We can no longer take Canada’s safety or independence for granted. In an increasingly unstable world, we must be prepared to defend our country and support our allies. These investments will also create real economic opportunities here at home, including right here in Quebec, by prioritizing Canadian suppliers and manufacturers.
I’m proud to support both of these decisions. They reflect our values as Canadians: standing up for what’s right, protecting each other, and preparing for the future with strength and purpose.
As always, if you have any questions or want to share your thoughts, I’m here.
