Today marks a significant milestone for our community of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and all Canadians. I am delighted to share that the roll-out of the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is underway, beginning with seniors, youth under 18 years of age, and Canadians with disabilities. This initiative promises to revolutionize oral health care in Canada and builds on the Canada Dental Benefit, which has enabled over 390,000 Canadian children under age 12 to access dental care.
Why Oral Health Matters:
Oral health is crucial to our overall health. Regular dental visits can prevent tooth decay and gum disease and even reduce the risk of serious conditions like cardiovascular disease and stroke. Yet, one in three Canadians can't see an oral health professional due to lack of dental insurance, and one in four avoid visits due to cost. The Canadian Dental Care Plan is here to change that.
CDCP: A Public Plan for Better Health:
Thanks to our government’s $13 billion investment over five years, the Canadian Dental Care Plan is set to ease financial barriers for up to nine million Canadians who have an adjusted family income under $90,000.00 and who do not have access to dental insurance. The Canadian Dental Care Plan focuses on diverse needs, covering services like diagnostics, preventive care, and various dental treatments deemed necessary by your dental health professional.
Here's How to Join the CDCP:
Step 1: Check your Mailbox
If you've filed your 2022 taxes and your family's adjusted income is under $90,000.00, watch for a letter from Service Canada with enrollment details when it is your turn for enrollment.
Missed Your Letter? No worries. Ensure your address details are updated with the Canada Revenue Agency, especially if you’ve recently moved. Remember, you need to have filed your 2022 taxes to be eligible. If your selected enrollment period has passed, you can contact Service Canada for information on how to move forward with your application.
Step 2: Follow the Letter's Instructions
Got your letter? Fantastic! Here's what you do next:
📞 Call the number provided in the letter from Service Canada and apply directly over the phone.
🕒 Stay on the line and wait for a confirmation from Service Canada. They will let you know if you are registered.
📦 Once your eligibility is confirmed, a welcome package from Sun Life will be sent to you in the coming months. This is your key to understanding when and how to start using CDCP benefits.
** It is important to note that the program will only be available through oral health professionals who have registered with the program, and payments will not be available retroactively – be sure to speak to your dental health care provider before any treatment appointments to ensure no confusion.
Step 3: Mark Your Calendars for the Application Rollout
Here’s when the different groups can start applying:
87+ Seniors: Gear up for December 2023.
77-86 Seniors: Your turn comes in January 2024.
72-76 Seniors: February 2024 is your month.
70-71 Seniors: Get ready for March 2024.
65-69 Seniors: *May 2024 is your time.
Adults with Disability Tax Credit certificate & Children under 18: *June 2024 is when you join in.
Everyone else eligible: 2025 is your year!
*Starting in May 2024, when it is their turn to register, Canadians will be able to proceed with their applications online. My team and I will keep you posted with more details as we get closer to the online system being launched.
What This Means for You:
Enrolled Canadians, starting with our seniors, can visit oral healthcare providers as early as May 2024 once they receive proof of enrollment from Sun Life. The CDCP will directly reimburse participating oral healthcare professionals, reducing out-of-pocket expenses and ensuring more Canadians benefit from expert dental care.
This plan is more than just healthcare; it's about bringing a sense of security and wellness to our community and communities just like ours across Canada. I’m here every step of the way to help ensure you get the care you deserve.
Let's embrace a future of brighter, healthier smiles in Vaudreuil-Soulanges!
Warmest regards,
Peter Schiefke
