Every Canadian deserves to feel safe at home, at work, and in their community. That’s why our Liberal government is taking strong, practical steps to protect Canadians and build safer communities across the country.
Prime Minister Mark Carney recently announced new measures to combat crime and strengthen our justice system.
These include:
- Tougher laws to keep violent and repeat offenders off our streets.
- 1,000 new RCMP officers and $1.8 billion over four years to increase federal policing capacity.
- Stronger penalties for crimes like violent assault, sexual offences, organized retail theft, and auto theft.
- Dedicated RCMP units to fight online fraud, money laundering, and child exploitation.
But our approach goes beyond enforcement. Our government is also addressing the root causes of crime by investing in affordable housing, mental health support, and programs for at-risk youth.
These new, multifaceted measures will help protect families, support local law enforcement, and ensure our neighbourhoods and communities remain places where everyone can feel safe.
