As I return to Ottawa this week for the Fall Parliamentary session, I wanted to share some exciting news with you. On Saturday, September 13th, our government delivered on a key campaign promise with the launch of Build Canada Homes, a new federal agency dedicated to building more affordable homes, faster.
With $13 billion in start-up funding, Build Canada Homes will drive large-scale construction projects across the country. By using federal lands, including 88 properties thus far, and prioritizing Canadian steel, lumber, and manpower, this initiative will not only build homes but also support good-paying jobs and strengthen our economy.
The first projects are already underway in Dartmouth, Longueuil, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Edmonton, where 4,000 new homes will be built on federal land. In Nunavut, we are working with local communities to deliver more than 700 new homes, a critical investment for the North.
